Venezuela`s Chavez may seek stay in office: "CARACAS, Venezuela (UPI) -- Venezuela`s president, already running for another term this year, he may let voters decide whether he should be able to run for re-election in 2012.
In a six-hour, weekly TV show Hugo Chavez rebutted U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice`s assertion that the populist leader is a danger to Latin America.
The BBC reports Chavez -- elected to office in 1998 and 2000 and the survivor of a 2002 coup attempt he said the United States played a hand in -- is seeking re-election this year and wouldn`t be allowed to run for office when his term expires in 2012.
He is floating the idea of a referendum to see if voters want to skirt the constitutional ruling and keep him in office."
