  Sigh
One would hope that the only thing the US would be giving our earstwhile 'ally' was the back of our metaphorical hand. What are we going to do after we play kissy-face with the Germans and they revert back to nature and once again start carrying water for Chiraq and his foolish scheme?
Politics News Article | Reuters.com: "BERLIN (Reuters) - President Bush will visit Germany on Feb. 23 for the first time after three years of frosty relations, a move quickly welcomed by the government in Berlin as a sign of improving transatlantic ties.

German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder's spokesman Bela Anda said on Tuesday Bush would travel to Germany, which had been a close ally of Washington before relations ruptured over Iraq. Bush first would visit NATO and the European Union in Brussels on Feb. 22.

'The German government is delighted about the U.S. president's visit,' Anda said. 'We also welcome that President Bush will meet NATO and EU leaders one day before that in Brussels.'

Bush's trip to Europe at the start of his second term is designed to mend breaches between Europe and the United States that opened up over the Iraq war, Secretary of State Colin Powell said recently in Brussels.

Bush's journey to Germany is especially noteworthy because Schroeder was one of the leading opponents of the Iraq war alongside French President Jacques Chirac and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Schroeder's criticism of U.S. policy put strains in traditionally close German-U.S. relations and led to fears in both countries that the extensive business ties between the world's two largest export nations could be damaged."
